CoFesta events plan to merge

TOKYO — Tokyo Contents Market and Licensing Asia — two events under the umbrella of the Japan Contents Festival (CoFesta) — will merge this year.

The former — a mart for toons, games, CGI, photos and character goods — is sponsored by the Kanto Bureau of Economy Trade and Industry, a government org. The latter, which attracts everything from character licensing majors to small venture outfits, is sponsored by the Intl. Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Assn., a private industry org.

Merger will save costs for CoFesta, which promotes Japanese content abroad. Last year, 18 events unspooled under the CoFesta banner from Sept. 24 to Oct. 28, including the Tokyo Film Festival.
