Creative chief ankles Endemol
LONDON — Endemol creative topper Paul Romer, who co-developed “Big Brother” alongside John de Mol, is to leave the company following a 15-year stint.
The company announced Romer’s decision to quit as it revealed the formation of a new creative board to oversee and direct the development of new shows.
Endemol chairman and CEO Ynon Kreiz paid tribute to Romer’s “outstanding track record” at the outfit.
Romer was appointed chief creative officer last year. He famously helped launch “Big Brother” on an unsuspecting world in the Netherlands in 1999, subsequently taking the iconic reality format to the U.S.
He stated he was leaving Endemol in order to “move on to new challenges.”
The creative board will include Endemol prexy Marco Bassetti, U.K. CEO Tim Hincks and David Goldberg, chairman of Endemol North America.
Kreiz said: “Marco, Tim and David are among the most experienced and skilled creative leaders in the business. This new structure leverages our top creative talent in the group, and will add further focus and strength to the support we give our local creative teams around the world.”
Endemol also announced that Iris Boelhouwer is upped to managing director of creative operations, responsible for co-ordinating the company’s teams around the world.
