‘Iron Man’ renewed by Nicktoons

”Iron Man: Armored Adventures” has been renewed for a second season of 26 episodes on Nicktoons.

The animated series bowed in April 2009 (after launching in Canada the previous November) and delivered Nicktoons’ highest-rated original series premiere ever among boys 6-11, helping boost the channel last year to its top numbers in children 6-11 and in total viewers. Net’s first quarter this year was also its most-watched ever in the 6-11 and 9-14 demos.

“It was about planting our flag in the ground with boys,” stated Keith Dawkins, Nicktoons general manager and senior veep of Nickelodeon programming partnerships. “We target boys 6-11, and one of the things we felt boys need and must have are great superhero properties. ‘Iron Man’ is one of the iconic properties out there.”

The second season will premiere on Nicktoons in 2011. Stories follow main character Tony Stark as a teenager — “young, identifiable and aspirational, that our children could relate to,” Dawkins said.

Aton Soumache, Alexis Vonarb, Dimitri Rassam, Stan Lee and Eric S. Rollman exec produced the series’ first season.
