WGA announces TV noms

Fox’s “The Simpsons” has scored four nominations for TV writing awards from the Writers Guild of America while HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and ABC’s “Modern Family” each took a trio of noms.The WGA announced the noms Wednesday and will present the awards on Feb. 19 in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York. Episodes of “The Simpsons,” which often dominates the animated category, took all but two of the noms with Comedy Central’s “Futurama” and Cartoon Network’s “Ben Ten” scoring the other nods. “Futurama” won the category last year.”Boardwalk Empire” and “Breaking Bad” took drama series nominations along with HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” CBS’s “The Good Wife” and Showtime’s “Homeland.” AMC’s “Mad Men” won the category last year. Two episodes each of “Boardwalk Empire” and “”Breaking Bad” scored noms in the episodic drama category along with single segments of Showtime’s “Dexter” and “Homeland.”"Modern Family” took a nomination in comedy series — which it’s won twice in a row — along with NBC’s “30 Rock,” HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” FX’s “Louie” and NBC’s “Parks & Recreation.” “Modern Family” scored a pair of nominations for episodes in the comedy episodic contest along with two for NBC’s “The Office” and single noms for Showtime’s “Weeds” and NBC’s “30 Rock.”New series nods went to Showtime’s “Episodes,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Showtime’s “Homeland,” AMC’s “The Killing” and Fox’s “New Girl.” “Boardwalk Empire” won the category last year.
